Traumatic brain injury is the term used to describe a head injury that involves the brain, skull, or scalp.  These can be closed or penetrating head injuries.

Closed Head Injury

When the injured person’s head is injured from the blunt force of an object, this is called a closed head injury. This could mean the object itself was moving (E.g. a falling brick on a jobsite) or it could mean the head itself struck the object (E.g. the person hit the windshield in an auto accident).

Penetrating Head Injuries

When TBI is a penetrating head injury, this means an object travelling at high velocity has broken through the skull and penetrated the brain. This could be skull fragments from the damaged skull or bullets from gunshots.

Whether TBI is a closed head injury or a penetrating head injury, the results can change the trajectory of your life. The compensation for damages should include consideration of the following:

  • Medical expenses
  • Hospital fees
  • Loss of wages
  • Loss of benefits
  • Rehabilitation costs
  • Post Traumatic Stress Disorder counseling
  • Pain and suffering

In the wake of a loved one’s TBI, we understand that your immediate aim will be to ensure that medical bills paid and basic care costs are covered.  Right on the heels of this concern will be making sure financial hardship does not spiral into out of control  debt because of lost wages.  Let Boettcher & Lobaugh work with you and your insurance company to make sure we pursue payment and coverage of future treatment.
